How can an artist envision an artisan’s craft??

Story

ALABAT owes its creation to Abel Labat, the great-grandfather of
Simon Vignau, the founder of ALABAT.

A simple shepherd, Abel possessed an innate sense of business
that led him to acquire a forest and later a small Armagnac estate
in Saint-Gein, situated in the heart of Grand-Bas-Armagnac,
Landes.

In the twilight of his life, a fire engulfed his cellar. A few bottles
were salvaged at the last minute and have since rested in the
family cellar as relics of times gone by.

Armed with this heritage, Simon set out in search of Armagnac producers who embodied his grandfathers ethos & love of the craft alongside the region in equal measure.  Each time he finds a winemaker, an artist, a year and a cask – this is ALABAT’s signature.

The portrait collection is a range of unique Armagnacs from 1 producer, 1 vintage, 1 grape variety & 1 cask.  They are bottled at their natural strength, with no additives and in limited editions. They are all selected from artisan producers and then envisioned by local artists.  For each barrel selected from ALABAT’s chosen producers, a fragment of their portrait is illustrated on the bottle label.
